Wrapped Emotions – Perspective on God’s Provision

If you’ve been reading this blog recently, you’ll notice that I do a lot of group writing projects and collaborative things. For me, this is what blogging is all about. Exploring my inner workings, my relationship with God, and sharing with others in community. This post is part of a unique collaborative blog, called Wrapped Emotions. You really should go over and read what it’s all about.

The assignment for this week is as follows:

Do you view objects from the same vantage point day after day? Do you approach your life from the same vantage point day after day? I want you to open your mind to how you see things.

This week you are working with a metaphoric wrapper…the emotion or emotions that wrap your mind. Fear, apprehension, cautiousness…whatever keeps you from viewing objects and your life from a different vantage point.

Think of places you frequent…a park, a museum (where cameras are allowed), a store, a playground, but do not be limited by my suggestions. Find an object or objects that you have seen before…by objects I mean anything from buildings to poles to poodles to garbage trucks, anything. Lie on your back on the ground or floor and snap at least one photo from that vantage point. Relax. Unless you choose to lie on the floor of a public restroom, you will not die from an onslaught of bacteria…remember we are unwrapping the mind of such binding thoughts. Hold on to the emotions running rampant through your body as you do this and use them in finalizing your creation.

Last week, I wrote two posts that I realized were connected in a very unique way. These posts also inspired my choice for this project. Together they form one piece of the puzzle that is emotional eating, something a lot of women struggle with. The two posts are:

You see, I live in a constant subconscious state of wondering when the rug will be pulled out from under me. I wait for the testing times, so much that I can’t enjoy the blessings

I also “leave the emotions wrapped up in self-protection while I continually unwrap things that will not restore my soul! I know the One who will restore my peace, my comfort, but why will I not bring these emotions to Him? Because then, I will have to feel them. If I want God to heal those places, I will have to expose, unwrap them and actually see them. I must acknowledge I am not perfect.”

As the Lord connected the dots in my mind, I realized my problem: deep down, I don’t believe the Lord’s provision for me. One reason I eat when I am feeling insecure is because I do not trust God to provide, emotionally or physically. So with these pictures of my grocery store trip, I will attempt to line up my understanding of His provision with God’s Word.

You hem me in—behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? Ps. 139:5-7

The first place God has demonstrated His provision is with finances. In this trip to the grocery store, I purchased $172.57 worth of groceries for $83.81. (How?) God has never given us huge amounts of money. But He has shown us that if we are faithful with what He has given, He will provide all our needs! Our finances are not beyond His reach! Even in the hard times, we can count on this truth.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Cor 13:12

No matter what things look like on earth, God always sees the truth. I cannot always trust what I see here, but I must go to the Word and pray for God’s persective.

O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions.
You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. Ps 65:2-3, 9-11

I was struck while I was making homemade tomato sauce this week, how awesome is God’s creation!! Those tomatoes, straight from the garden, were like candy! Why don’t I focus more on eating what God created for us, pure healthy foods. They are beautiful and amazing, and truly nourishing to this body He created.

“Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matt 7:9-12

the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. Ps 147:11

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zeph 3:17

God does not only want to teach us lessons, but also, to genuinely bless us. Just because we are His children. He wants us to rest and have fun with Him.

Thank you, Melody, for inspiring me to ask God for this understanding. I feel like I am a bit closer to fully turning my emotions over to God., although I know it will be a continual process.

Can anyone else relate to this? Let me know how you feel about it!

Wordless Wednesday – Man’s (& Woman’s) Best Friend

Our sweet Giant Schnoodle (giant schnauzer/standard poodle), Nigel lost his manhood today. So for WW, I thought I’d honor him by bragging about what a great dog he is. Here he is with his brother, Julian (adopted by my SIL) and protecting our sleeping Princess, who loves him the more than all of us.

Man of the Year Awards

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ladies, try not to get too jealous when you read today’s post. I was encouraged by reading a post on SpeakingThruMe to examine what I say about others on my blog. I try to be very positive in general when speaking about my husband, Judd. But sometimes a funny anecdote, like setting things on fire, if I’m not careful, can turn into bashing or condescending. (Although Judd loved that particular post)

I got to thinking, “How can I bless my husband through this blog, and quiet his fears that I am venting about him?” Bloggers get awards all the time, but what about the spouses who sit waiting for said blogger to come cuddle on the couch?

So here it is: the Man of the Year Award! Every husband does something worthy to be praised, so let me start by showing you the HUGE playset he lovingly built for our three Princess Monkeys! It still needs some railings and grass, since we just built our house, but just look at this thing!

Now, you may think Judd bought one of those kits from Lowe’s, and simply followed directions to assemble it. Yeah, right, since when do men read directions? He designed the darn thing himself!! In true Judd frugality, he paid 1/3 of the price of the biggest kit, too! In all honesty, I was a little worried when he said he wasn’t using a blueprint. Boy was I wrong, it turned out great.

Of course, I shouldn’t have expected less. This is the man who built an entire climbing wall in our last house’s basement! He even made the holds with his friend, Matt. And yes, he disassembled it and brought it to the new house. I have no doubt it will find a home in our new basement soon.

Not only did he build this playset, he did it while being alone with the kids almost all weekend. I had a million things to do last weekend. While I would have usually said no to some, I loved all these activities, and asked him if he could just take over the kids for the weekend. He selflessly said yes, so after working hard doing landscaping all week, he played super-dad!

All this building and kid duty may sound trivial to some of you, but it is just an example of who he is as a man. Selfless, creative, handy, fun, daddy, husband, love of my life.

If you are curious about how we met and married, and more ways he is such a blessing to me, read this post.

Now it’s your turn! Write a post about why your husband deserves the Man of the Year Award. Copy and paste the code below for the button, then leave your link to the specific post.

Male readers, may I suggest getting your wife to guest blog on your site, or as Ben may be tempted to do, write a hilarious fake post about great it is to be married to you!

I’ll be sure to get by to read about your wonderful husbands. Here is the code for the button:

COMING SOON: The Man of the Year Awards!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I was thinking last weekend of how wonderful my husband is, and the fact that I usually communicate more of the problem issues to him than his successes. So Friday, I am going to award him the Man of the Year award, and extol his masculine virtues. (watch out Time Magazine!)

How about joining me? Lets think of something we love about our husbands and award him the Man of the Year!

I’ll try to put up a Mr. Linky so you can come back here and share your thoughts. You can use the button, too. (I actually designed it, so don’t laugh) I’ll try to have the code to link your button to the Man of the Year post, or you can just copy the image to your server.

Don’t miss it! Subscribe now! See you Friday!

Stones of Remembrance

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Stones. Part of God’s fascinating creation. There is something about stones and remembrance. When the Israelites crossed the Jordan at flood stage to go into the promised land, the Lord instructed them to make a pillar of stones to remember the miracle.

4 So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, 5 and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” Joshua 4:4-7

My girls want to collect stones from everywhere we go, even a friend’s gravel driveway. They usually pick up the “sparkly” ones, and sometimes they want to paint them. So when my husband went camping with a friend, he brought home these river rocks. (pictured above) He may as well have been bearing gold and jewels! They were so excited. You can bet that they will always remember exactly how they got those stones.

What are your stones of remembrance? We all need them, in whatever form will speak to us of God’s glory and faithfulness. So, when your children ask you, “What does this mean?” you can tell of your mighty deliverer!

This post was a direct result of the Weekly Photo Hunt at Moms of Grace. Melody’s topic was “keepsake,” and I decided to highlight my daughters’ love of stones. After I took the picture, and sat looking at it, God spoke to me about the need for “stones of remembrance,” and how these stones were a remembrance of how much their daddy loves them. I so love how the Photo Hunt stretches my abilities as a photographer and a writer, helps me to think outside the box. Moms of Grace is an incredible community of Christian Women online. I never realized how it would inspire me to connect with other Christian moms all over the world, so if you’re not in on it, don’t miss out! Click here to get started!

Father’s Day Festivities

In a tribute to the best husband and father in the world, my girls decided to to this for him:

They saw it in the craft section at Walmart, and couldn’t resist! After painting the windows, we went to a church-wide picnic, where all the other fathers looked on enviously! (J/K) He played it down, but I think he really was proud. I admire this man so much for who he is, especially when no one is looking. I am so thankful that our girls have an awesome example of a man after God’s heart, who knows how to treat a woman (and his little princesses) with true love and respect, and puts God above all else in his life.

Now, I will say that I had to threaten severe punishment if they EVER wrote on the car with anything other than this particular pen, and with me there! I had flashbacks to when HipChick (6yr-old) was 3, and came in from playing outside. She proudly exclaimed, “Mommy, guess what! This rock writes on the car!” She didn’t understand why I started yelling after her exciting discovery.

If you have a Father’s Day post you would like to share, sign the Mr. Linky below, so we can all celebrate with you.
